The Transition Year programme in The King’s Hospital is comprised of core subjects, exam subject modules and non-exam modules. The core and exam subject modules cover many areas – encompassing topics and skills which will assist Leaving Certificate studies and other areas of development indirectly.
The non-exam subject modules work on the total development of the student providing introduction into such areas as information technology, health and fitness, cultural studies, outdoor education and drama. The modules are studied for part of the year in rotation, thus giving students the opportunity to avail of many opportunities.
There is no state examination at the end of Transition Year. Assessment is usually carried out on an ongoing basis and can include school-based assessment of projects or portfolios, oral, aural, practical and written activities. From 2016 on there will be larger focus on academic subjects in the Summer Term followed by Summer Exams.
