| | | | Physical Education | Physical education in The King's Hospital applies a holistic approach to the concept of physical activity for young people. It recognises the physical, mental, emotional and social dimensions of human movement. It emphasises the contribution of physical education to the promotion of individual and group well being. Learning in physical education involves the acquisition of knowledge, concepts, skills and attitudes, which are central to physical education, together with recognition of its potential for integration with other curriculum areas.
The Junior Cycle Physical Education Programme was established in September 2003, to support the introduction of the junior cycle physical education syllabus. Assessment as an examination subject is to follow soon. In The King's Hospital, pupils attend
Leaving Certificate students may soon have the option of doing exams in two new subjects, politics and society and physical education. Work on developing the new subjects is at an advanced stage and draft syllabuses in both will be available next year.
