Gaisce Awards

The School actively promotes Gaisce – The President’s Awards scheme every year, with many Transition Year pupils taking up the challenge of gaining their bronze and silver medals while some go on to achieve the gold medal in subsequent years.

To earn an award, each Gaisce participant must undertake activities in four different areas, under the following headings:

Skill (e.g. computers)

Community (e.g. first aid, fund-raising, charity work)

Physical (e.g. swimming)

Adventure (e.g. organise a two-day hike/cycle/canoe trip)

Students participating in Gaisce / The President's Award spent over a year from March 2005 - February 2006 fundraising to travel to Kabwe in Zambia to help build a local centre for local children, most of whom were orphaned by aids. Click on the photgraph to read more ...

GAISCE GOLD AWARD FOR BARBARA MORIARTY-PEARSON
Barbara Moriarty-Pearson, a past pupil and assistant scout leader in the Celbridge Troop was awarded the Gaisce Gold Award on Tuesday 31st March

The ceremony was held in Saint Patrick's Hall, at Dublin Castle. There are generally only about 50 Gold Gaisce Awards presented each year, making Barbara a member of a very special group.

The four elements to Barbara’s achieving the gold award were: Community (assistant scout leader), Physical (member of the Reserve Defence Force), Skill (learning to drive and passing the driving test), and Venture (a 5 Day long hiking trip in Luxembourg).

Barbara's President Award Leader (PAL) is Michelle Murray, a teacher in The Kings Hospital where Barbara went to school. Michelle was unable to attend the award ceremony but sent here warmest congratulations, “I’m very proud of Barbara, it’s a great achievement, well done!”
