| | | | | | | | | Stewart's Hospital Flag Day - 7th October 2011 | The Kings Hospital has done it again, defying the national mood of penny pinching and managing to raise a significant sum of money for Stewarts Care. 19,878.71 was the total raised on October 7th 2011.
A massive effort was put in by all students involved. This started with a very informative talk on the history of Stewarts and the role that it plays in the community given by Stewarts management and service users. Bolstered with this info and with some students having already spent time in Rossecourt Adult Education Day centre, the students were galvanized into action.
Throughout the whole day I constantly saw students communicating a clear message and spreading the good word about what Stewarts does and also what we here in KH stand for. Even though it was a cold day and many students were not receiving as many donations as they expected, the enthusiasm was clear to see. I saw students shaking their buckets all over Dublin and outlying regions from 9 am till 7pm, and it made me proud to be their teacher.
The top collector this year was Roger Berkeley who raised the magnificent sum of 1361.06, which is now the new record for the KH Stewarts Flag Day. This beat the previous record set by current form 6 student Basil Brindley. It sets a big challenge for students to follow as it was not collected easily, it took a lot of time and effort to achieve. The top 10 collectors all raised amounts in excess of 400 and were rewarded with vouchers for Liffey Valley.
More amazingly though was that 69 students managed to raise 100 or above. A further 25 students managed to raise over 50. This is a phenomenal feat and really shows how much students tried. Even if someone did not raise as much money as they would have liked, you can be sure that they tried their best.
I was so pleased with their achievements and know that they have given a large contribution to a worthy cause.
