House Structure

To enable the School operate efficiently and effectively and to help nurture a sense of community and homeliness, it is divided into ten ‘Houses’ whose Housemasters or Housemistresses have specific responsibility for the general welfare and development of pupils under their care.

The names of the Houses relate to the School’s past history such as:
      
BluecoatThe School was often referred to as the Bluecoat School because of its early uniform
Blackhallan early governor after whom Blackhall Place was named
IvoryThe noted 18th Century architect Thomas Ivory designed the Blackhall Place building
MorganA small school in Castleknock, endowed by Richard Morgan and taken over by The King’s Hospital in 1957
MercerSmall girls' school endowed by Mary Mercer and taken over in 1966
DesmondNamed after the house of Desmond
OrmondeJames Butler, Duke of Ormonde was the principal founder
SwiftDean Jonathan Swift was a governor
StuartCharles II was a member of the Stuart family
GraceNamed after Grace Tunn, the first girl in the School in 1675, one of three among 60 boys
