The King's Hospital has a long tradition of cricket and the game continues to attract much interest in the school. Cricket is the principal sport for both boys and girls during the summer term. Cricket is played as one of the major sports by boys in the summer term. Form 1 and 2 boys and girls experience the game through the medium of their specially organised team event -'Crocker-athletics', which involves the playing of cricket, soccer and athletics two days a week, moving from sports to sport each day. It brings about active partcipation by all students in the two junior years.

Facilities in The King's Hospital for cricket are excellent, boasting three artifical wickets and playing areas, a three-lane outdoor net-cage facility and a two-lane indoor net facility and ample space for both boys and girls to pursue the game. In recent years, the provision of top-class indoor facilities in the Sports Hall has helped both with the promotion of the game and and the nature of the coaching that can be provided. Many pupils avail of indoor coaching throughout the winter months, which hitherto had not been possible.

The school fields some six boys teams from U-13 to Senior (U-18) and they play friendlies and Leinster Schools' League and Cup competitions. Girls' cricket fields a similiar number of teams and also heavily involved competitively in Leinster Schools' competitions. Last year, 2008, the Girls' Senior team gaining a memorable victory in last year's final against St Columba's College. In 2006, the SCT XI played in the Leinster Schools'Cup final in both 2005 and 2006, unfortunately losing to CUS on both occasions. Those disappointments were somewhat compensated for by the Junior XI winning the Leinster Schools' Junior Cup in 2005 - the first year since 1946 that The King's Hospital had teams in both the Senior and Junior Finals. The Junior Girls XI were defeated in a close final against St Andrews in 2006, and in 2007, both the Senior and Junior teams reached the Leinster Schools' Cup semi-finals.

Coaching sessions take place at the school during the winter months, run by Leinster Development Officer, Brian O'Rourke, assisted by Leinster Provincial coaches, Nigel Pyne and Barra Mac Niocaill. Other coaches at the school include Dan Van Zyl, David Plummer, Dean Maguire, Jerome Devitt, Jean Atkinson , Dot Rolston, Caeleen Jones, Fodhla Treacy and the recently retired Peter O'Boyle and Arthur Travers.
