Rowing is a prominent sport in the school and both boys and girls participate, in both winter and summer. It has been tradionally the case, with the nearby facilities at Islandbridge used to promote the sport. At present the empahasis is on single and double sculls, with great success in recent times.
Oarsmen and women compete in local and national events, and then onto the international stage. Last year, competitors from The King's Hospital competed in the Lagan Head of the River, Neptune Regatta, Commercial Regatta, Queen's Regatta, Trinity Regatta, Carlow Regatta, Dublin Metropolitian Regatta and the Ghent International Reagatta. The school is also represented at the Irish Championships in the summer.
The aim is to continue the active participation of students in this most disciplined of sports and to continue to make our mark at the highest level both nationally and internationally, and most specifically, to enter a team in the Henley Royal Regatta in the near future. |
