Two years ago, in 2017, the King’s Hospital School hosted the inaugaral Great Reads Awards - an initative by the School Library Association of Ireland recognising first time authors of Young Adult Fiction.
Secondary schools students voted online for their favourite title on the shortlist.
The master of ceremonies for the awards was well known author Paul Howard, better known for his alter ego, Ross O'Carroll-Kelly. The awards were attended by five of the shortlisted authors and the authors who won in the following categories:
“Most Read” title: Knights of the Borrowed Dark by Dave Rudden
Junior Category: The Accident Season by Moira Fowley-Doyle
Senior Category: The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson
Representative students from many schools, together with their school librarians, attended the event and were treated to a great talk from Paul Howard, the winning authors, and some of the runner-up authors as well.
The event went off flawlessly and a huge well done to our librarian, Joan Kelly, and all her student literary critics and helpers on the day.
The Great Reads Awards initiative is now in its third year, and this year was hosted by Loreto College Foxrock.
